There has been an issue today with Telstra Clear users unable to send to Hotmail email addresses or Windows live email addresses. Telstra are working to get this resolved but please beware in the mean time that you may get a bounced message if you try to send to anyone using these services.

Hi Guys,

Today we are facing another round of infections from a fake antivirus program.
It will look very much like an antivirus program you already have and will generally say that it has found hundreds, even thousands of infections. The program itself is the infection and will attempt to lure you in to buying the “professional” version of this “wonderful, life saving” antivirus application.

Do not under any circumstances use your credit card to pay for it’s services.

You will need to download a remover tool from the internet but if you are worried please let me know and I can get a Technician to remove it for you.

A good tip for these type of infections are do not click on the x at the top right of the application as this is not always a close button the “Ratbags” that create these Viruses,Spyware or Malware will often use this as an install button so instead of closing the the window it actually installs itself in the background on your PC.

The best way to close it is to right click on the task bar and select “Task Manager” then go to the Applications tab and close it from here. This will possibly prevent a full infection to occur.

Hi Everyone,

There is an ongoing scam that is still circulating around. It is a variant on the phone call that you may get from a “Microsoft Technician” letting you know that there is an issue on your PC. Let them know that the police are involved and are tracking their location via the new IP Address Scam Artist locator software (IASAL for short) and then hang up. They will not ring you back after this. The reason that you should know it is not a real Microsoft technician is that…. Microsoft will never ring you… ever. The scammers have been working overtime of late and have been ringing people more than once.

I have had the good fortune to be phoned by such a technician last week and now have a new goal in life, to see how long I can keep these scammers on the line before they give up. So far my personal best is 25 mins. In the end after I was asking about the special drinks tray that pops out of my computer and wondering if I could upgrade it to hold a powerade bottle, they just hung up on me, how rude .
The way I see it though is I may have just prevented two more people from being scamed.
